Hope ("To | Mr and Mrs. Hope | with affectionate friendship | from the Author | April 1895") on front free endpaper, title-page in red and black, original dark green vertically ribbed cloth lettered in gilt on spine, top edge gilt, later green cloth chemise and slipcase, some light browning, lower hinge splitting, adhesive residue on front fixed endpaper, extremities rubbed, very slightly skewed
