comprising an American needlework with weeping willows, flowers and vines dated 1811 and inscribed Sarah Lee 1811; A needlework sampler inscribed Priscilla Hall Badger aged 13 worked at Elizabeth S. Smith's School, Portsmouth, How Blast the Maid Whom Circling Years Improve Her God the Object of Her Warmest Love Whose Useful Hours Successive As They Glide The Book The Needle and The Pen Divide Who Sees Her Parents Heart Exalt with Joy and the Fond Tear Stand Sparkling In Their Eye.; and a silk embroidery theorem, early 19th century.

The lead item in the lot, dated 1811, has considerable loss in the gauze ground – the center area is sound, but the borders have much loss, silk threads are faded. In the “together with” the chenille on satin basket of flowers on a bench – discoloration and dirt on the ground. The needlework sampler worked by Priscilla is in very good condition – silk threads are faded but the linsey-woolsey ground is sound. From Elizabeth S.
