Eel tureens and their stands are mentioned in the 1755 Chelsea sale Catalogue, Second Day's Sale, Tuesday, March 11, lot 94: "Two very fine Eels and plates;" see the facsimile reproduction of this catalogue in the Appendix of Chelsea Porcelain at Williamsburg by John C. Austin. Two similar eel tureen stands, from the Collection of Meyer and Vivian Potamkin, were sold in these rooms, May 22, 2003, lot 108, as well as another two on October 21, 2005, lots 335 and 336.
