Description

each piece finely painted with a flower specimen, titled on the reverse, the Swansea service, painted by Thomas Pardoe, comprising: an ice pail, liner and cover, a footed two-handled centerbowl, two lozenge-shaped dishes, four square shaped dishes and two sauce tureens, covers and stands; the English pearlware service comprising: a footed centerbowl, three shell-shaped dishes, two oval dishes, two square shaped dishes and fifteen dessert plates, the ice pail with stamped SWANSEA in red, all silver-lustre-edged wares with Thomas Pardoe's distinct handwriting; the gilt-edged wares with title inscriptions in red. 39 pieces.
Condition
Silver-edged Service:
Ice pail, cover and liner - liner has minor discoloration to interior. Cover - wear to silver lustre rims. Pail - good condition, very minor scratching to one flower.
Footed centerbowl - good condition
One lozenge dish has a 2 inch haircrack; one is in good condition.
Four square dishes - all in good condition.
Sauce tureens, covers and stands - one cover broken into pieces and repaired, 1 1/4 inch by 1 inch area of loss filled. The other cover with discolored crazing. Tureens - good condition. Stands - one with tiny chip to rim edge.
Gilt-edged service:
all with some minor scratching to enamels.
Centerbowl - good condition
Three shell dishes - one with gilt rubbing to rims, two with gilding on rims retouched and one with a restored rim chip.
Two oval dishes- one has rubbing to gilt rim and a bruise-crack to the footrim. The other has the rim re-gilt, and a 1/4 inch rim haircrack and a bruise crack to the foot.
Two shaped square dishes - both rims re-gilt. One with a firing haircrack across the footrim.
Plates:
Note two plates are porcelain not pearlware. Both these are in good condition.
Of the thirteen pearlware plates, all have some or considerable rubbing to the rims, and some have some gilt retouched. Otherwise in good condition except, one with a 1 inch haircrack to the rim; two each with ah 2 inch haircrack to the rim; and one with two 1 1/2 inch haircracks to the rim.
