Condition
Good condition; the first with small repairs to the top of the front cresting rail close to joins of front legs; back right foot with an old repaired break; some minor old worm damage; the other chair with minor old worm damage to the seat rails; decoration is later and with some wear and losses especially around feet and hand holds; however, the chairs were always meant to be painted as the carving of the wood is deep and very well-executed; it is interesting to note that these English chairs are made in the French way and are pegged at the joins whilst also making room for corner struts: a uniquely English construction feature. The chairs are sturdy and the modern brown velvet upholstery is in very good condition. Nice proportions and good carving.
