Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Shakerley for Charles Watkin John Buckworth (1767-1834) of Somerset Park, Cheshire, who assumed the name and arms of Shakerley by Act of Parliament in 1788. His mother, Eliza Shakerley (d. 1811), heiress of Peter Shakerley of Hulme, married Charles Buckworth in 1764.

He owned an extensive service of plate by Storr including a gilt Warwick vase (Christie's, London, May 23, 2012, lot 19), a two-handled tray with elaborate armorial engraving (Christie's, New York, May 17, 2012, lot 56), and a cruet frame (the same, October 19, 2001, lot 212).
