Catalogue Note

On February 22, 1932, Grosz sent seven drawings to the editiors of the satirical magazine Simplicissimus in Munich. Three were accepted for publication, including the present lot. Bearing the title Philosophie, the drawing was illustrated with the following legend: "The housemaid saying in Berlin slang to the master of the house: Look little angel, that is how the short luck of love goes: It starts with pleasantry and ends with maintenance."
