Condition

Canvas is unlined. The surface bears an incredibly rich and textured impasto; the artist makes use of incising into the paint layer in places. Coloration is bright and fresh. There are horizontal stretcher bar marks across the middle of the canvas and near the top of the work. There is a nail head-sized dot of paint loss just under the figure’s ear. There is some thin vertical craquelure in places in the white pigments. Under UV light pin dots and occasional thin strokes of retouching are visible scattered in white pigment. There is a 2 inch vertical line of inpainting in the lower left, to the left of the figure’s foot, which likely corresponds to a repaired tear. Otherwise fine. Overall this work is in very good condition.
