Condition
The canvas is not lined. There is a discoloured milky varnish preventing the UV light from fully penetrating and the work would respond well to a clean. UV light reveals a few lines of pigment loss to the lower edge which have been partly retouched and a few further spots and lines of retouching in places associated to craquelure. The canvas is slightly undulating, there is some light frame rubbing to the extreme edges and there are some fine lines of stable craquelure towards the upper left corner with a paint loss (approx. 1cm) to the boy's proper left eyebrow. This work is in overall good condition.
