Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, an interchangeable platinum case back, setting pin and presentation box.

Launched in 2002, ref. 5074 is the successor of the ever-popular ref. 3974.  Housing the same self-winding Cal. R 27 Q movement within a large 42 mm diameter case, it was a breakaway from Patek Philippe’s traditional philosophy of creating highly complicated movements within a compact case. Comprising no fewer than 467 parts, the ref. 5074 is a marvelous work of art in modern Haute Horlogerie combining the two most highly prized functions - minute repeater together with perpetual calendar.  The minute repeating function features the “cathedral gongs” which are twice longer than the regular ones, resulting in a richer, grander chime.  The perpetual calendar indicates the correct date even in leap years, finely organized indications on the black dial including a moon-phase display and a separate 24-hour subsidiary dial.

Manufactured in small numbers, ref. 5074 in yellow gold with a silver or a black dial is available exclusively from 2002 until 2006.  Patek Philippe then presented the pink gold version in 2005 and platinum version in 2009 which remain in collection until today.  Previously unknown to the market and offered for the first time publicly in excellent condition, this is only the 2nd time the platinum example of Patek Philippe ref. 5074 appeared at auction.
