Condition

Quartz movement running while cataloguing, however the clock has not been tested for accuracy of time keeping and a service might be needed at buyer's expense. Dial slightly discolored near the bottom left panel. Case is clean in general and enamel is intact. Overall appears in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe extract from the Archives confirming production in 1986 sale on October 6th of the same year and a fitted box.

The first example of Patek Philippe Dome clock was officially presented in 1955 at the World Symposium and displayed at the Museum of Science in Boston. Their significance continues to the present day, demonstrating Patek Philippe's solid commitment to innovation and research. Complementing modern innovation with ancestral techniques such as cloisonné enamel, Philippe Stern stated in an interview with Robb Report that "People want something unique... It's coming back to art. People realize enameling is beautiful and very difficult to do-only a few artists in the world are capable of this quality."

The exterior of the dome clock with the modern abstract enamel design is hand-painted exquisitely by enameller Madame Luce Chappaz. The captivating scene features stallions running in the wild field.  Offering in the spring season of the year of horse, the spirit of the horse is recognized to be the Chinese people's ethos – making unremitting efforts to improve themselves. It is energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and talented. Ancient people liked to designate a capable person as 'Qianli Ma', a horse that covers a thousand miles a day.  Esteemed enameller Madame Chappaz is most celebrated for creating beautiful horse scenes and the present lot can be described has one of her finest examples of solar clocks.

As one of the second generation of dome clocks, the captivating and energetic subject matter and exceptional craftsmanship displayed in this unique timepiece makes it a true collector's delight.
