Catalogue Note
Launched in 2010, the reference 5950 is an extremely stylish split seconds chronograph wristwatch that encapsulates the history and tradition of Patek Philippe, combining superior watchmaking with sensational design. Inspired by the legendary vintage spilt seconds model, the so-called “Coussin-Tortue” that was made by Patek Philippe in the 1920’s, the present model incorporates the ultra-thin calibre CHR 27-525. The movement is stamped with the Patek Philippe seal, a high quality guarantee that goes beyond the Geneva Seal standards. Produced in stainless steel only, the design of the dial displays symmetrical Art Deco inspired decorations to the corners, which together with the italicised numerals reflect the original elegance of the vintage ‘Coussin-Tortue’ split seconds chronograph models. For an example of a vintage “Coussin-Tortue” from 1928, see Sotheby’s Geneva, 14th November 2006, lot 331).
