Catalogue Note

This Dato-Compax is a magnificent example of the famous reference 6036 and is complete with its original guarantee and presentation box.  The dial features unusual and attractive lozenge shaped numerals and has highly distinctive calendar apertures for day and month indication which are calibrated in red, rather than the black printing found on standard examples of this model. The red calendar is in Italian and it is interesting to note that another example of the 6036, also made for the Italian market and also with red day and month indication, was sold at Christie’s Geneva, lot 207, 10th May 2010. The gold watch case is in exceptional condition, retaining its original crystal, and has clear hallmarking to the underside of the lugs and crisp reference and serial numbers between the lugs. All these important attributes result in a watch of exceptional aesthetic beauty that will greatly appeal to the discerning collector.

Ref. 6036 is one of the major models of the Dato-Compax series and amongst the most complicated references ever produced by Rolex. It is the third generation of Rolex’s Antimagnetic chronograph with triple calendar and was available with several different dial layouts.

Various examples of reference 6036 are illustrated in Goldberger J., 100 Superlative Rolex Watches, Damiani 2008, p. 88.
