Condition

Please note that the movement has not been checked for timekeeping accuracy and Sotheby's will not be held responsible for any repairs should they be require. Movement is in working order while cataloguing. Dial in very good condition. Case with light scuffs from wear and very few small dents to the bezel. Overall in very good condition. Medal is worn but in good condition.

Catalogue Note

This watch belonged to Salvatore Quasimodo an Italian author and poet, Nobel Prize winner for Literature in 1959. He is considered to be one of the foremost Italian poets of the 20th century, along with Giuseppe Ungaretti and Eugenio Montale. Salvatore Quasimodo wore the present watch when he received the Noble Prize and the piece has remained in his family ever since.
