Catalogue Note

The offered lot was published as a postcard in an edition of 25,000 by the art publishing house AKhR (Association of Revolutionary Artists). The subject is the artist's 18 year old son, Lev Trofimov. The artist himself was a keen yachtsman and the present portrait of his son was painted while the family were based in Omsk from 1924 until 1932, when they moved to Moscow. The expression of intent on the boy's face conveys all the seriousness associated with Youth and Sport that defines a certain strand of Socialist Realism.
