Catalogue Note

In 1963, Anson immigrated to the United States and began acquiring memorabilia of his new country, ultimately amassing several thousand souvenirs of the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and the U.S. Capitol. He used a souvenir figurine to cast the statuettes for the Hanukkah lamp, which he designed for the centennial of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Anson donated the original to the Statue of Liberty National Monument, but created a number of other Hanukkah lamps over the next 25 years.

Accompanied by a letter from Anson's son, stating that his father created this circa 1996, as one of about 15 examples.
