Written in brown, black. and blue inks, on paper in semi-cursive Ashkenazic Hebrew script; initial words and main title in square script; margins ruled in pencil.Title within decorated architectural frame drawn in brown, blue and red colored ink, colored pencil, and wash. Original foliation:1-18, 29-36; lacking ff.19-28; ff. 33v-34v, blank. Some soiling. Owners' inscriptions on recto and verso of front wrapper, verso of rear wrapper; inkstamp on verso, front wrappers. Modern red cloth.
Catalogue Note
A collection of ethical writings by Mordecai ben Yisrael Isser of Derechin, written in Ostryna, and dated 1866. Both Derechin and Ostryna are located in the Grodno region of what is today Belarus, but which in the mid-nineteenth century was the epicenter of the Mussar movement led by Rabbi Israel Salanter. No other copies of this work are known.
