Description
- gold, silver, sapphire, diamond
Centering a buff-top emerald-cut sapphire weighing 16.96 carats, within a bow motif frame set with numerous old mine and single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 6.85 carats; circa 1890; together with an 18 karat white gold rope chain for wear as a pendant.
Condition
In good condition, especially considering the brooch's age, with some minor surface wear throughout. The sapphire is a medium violetish blue and lightly included, with some minor cavities and chips visible only under magnification. Evidence of color zoning, not apparent when worn. The larger old mine-cut diamonds are approximately I-K color, predominantly SI clarity. The smaller old mine and single-cut diamonds are decorative in quality. The brooch is well-made and delicate. Length approximately 3 1/2 inches, accompanied by a chain for wear as a pendant. Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 61412 stating that the sapphire is of Ceylon origin, with no indications of heating.
