Description

  • Paul Flato
  • platinum, sapphire, diamond
Set with 28 step-cut sapphires weighing approximately 26.60 carats, accented by three step-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.50 carats, bordered by small round and old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 3.70 carats, length 6 5/8 inches, signed Flato, numbered 9941; circa 1930.

Condition

In good condition. The sapphires are a deep violetish blue, well-matched for color and range from eye-clean to lightly included. Under magnification some very minute abrasions to the facet junctions can be seen, but the stones are in good condition overall. The emerald-cut diamonds are approximately G-H color, two of the diamonds bear a chip to the corner and therefore are approximately SI clarity (they are otherwise clean), and the third emerald-cut diamond is approximately VS clarity. The old European-cut diamonds are approximately F-G color, VS-SI clarity. The bracelet is nicely flexible and well-made. The safety chain may be later added.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
