The gold link choker set with three oval-shaped cabochon amethysts measuring approximately 35.0 by 23.5 mm to 24.0 by 18.5 mm, accented by rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.30 carats, gross weight approximately 105 dwts, length 13½ inches; the 5½ inch gold backchain is removable, allowing the front piece to be worn as a bracelet; 19th century.
Provenance
Sotheby's Geneva, The Thurn and Taxis Collection, Tuesday November 17th, 1992, lot 181. This choker-bracelet combination was originally offered as part of a suite which according to the Thurn and Taxis archives was a wedding present from Prince Luitpold of Bavaria to his niece Duchess Helene in Bavaria, who married Erbprinz Maximilian von Thurn and Taxis in 1858.
Condition
In good condition overall with some areas of minor discoloration to the gold, commensurate with age. The cabochon amethysts medium-deep purple and semi-transparent, and lightly included. The diamonds are near-colorless and decorative in quality. Bears a nice heft and can be adjusted to be worn as a bracelet. Please note that this piece was originally sold as part of lot 181 in the Thurn and Taxis Collection, sold by Sotheby's Geneva on November 17, 1992.
