Catalogue Note
For a design of this urn signed by Galberg and dated 1842, see Natalya Mavrodina, The Art of Russian Stone Carvers 18th-19th Centuries, St. Petersburg, 2007, p. 251. Galberg's designs are known to have been executed at the Yekaterinburg Lapidary Factory and the high quality of the present lot suggests that it was produced at that factory.
