Condition

Drilled for electricity. Ormolu ring supporting removable candle arms is later. Ormolu with oxidation, some surface dirt, and minor rubbing but overall in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

A very similar pair of ormolu candelabra also signed by Thomire is in the collection of the Gulbenkian Museum, Lisbon. These candelabra have identical central balusters and side supports terminating in swan heads. Although the Gulbenkian model has a different, pierced base supported by sphynxes, its upper section is also very similar to the present example, see Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Vol. I, Munich, 1986, p. 382, fig. 5.16.1.
