Catalogue Note

Candelabra incorporating dancing figures of this model depicting Flore and Zéphyr and Amour and Amitié appear on a drawing in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. This drawing of circa 1790 is signed Dessiné par J.D. Dugourc, architecte et dessinateur Du Cabinet de Monsieur Frère du Roi, Paris. 1790 - Executé par Gouthière, Siseleur doreur de Roy Faubourg St. Martin. This is thought to have formed part of an album intended for Madame Elisabeth, one of the sisters of Louis XVI. The differences in each candlelabrum indicate that it was meant to offer a choice for the model. The figures were commissioned by Gouthière from Boizot in 1773 for the Comtesse du Barry (see Louis-Simon Boizot, Versailles, exhibition catalogue, 2001-2002, pp. 202-203).
