Each open backrest with arched cresting rail, solid baluster-form splat inlaid with an urn on fanciful pedestal with foliage, drop-in seat, inlaid rails, raised on cabriole legs ending in pad feet. One chair stamped in caps II, other chair stamped V
Condition
Chair II in good restored condition; with chip to the top of the left style at join with cresting rail; some small restorations to feather banding of stile and splat; in-filling to old wormholes to splat; the apron with a small triangular veneer patch to left side at join with back leg and to right side at join with back leg; turned front bracket to front left leg replaced; back right foot with a small splice and with some old internal worm damage; the chair with later corner blocks to the seat rails; the bottom edge of each seat rail with two small cutouts possibly for struts which are now filled in with small wood blocks; seat rails with some old worm damage; chair is sturdy and appears to retain its original drop-in seat which has old worm damage and some restorations; chair V with some minor patches to veneer of stiles and cresting rail; some minor in-filling to old wormholes, to splat, the apron with a small chip to the veneer to the right side; and with a plug above the front right leg; now with later corner blocks, seat rail; the front apron with some restorations to feather banding; the bottom edge of each seat rail with two small cutouts possibly for struts which are now filled in with small wood blocks; seat rails with some old worm damage; the back feet each with a small splice and with some old worm damage; appears to retain its original drop-in seat frame with replaced back rail and with some old worm damage; overall each chair is sturdy and with the usual old scratches, scuffs, bruises, and nicks consistent with age and use
