Each with a shaped top rail, carved at the shoulders with acanthus leaves and flowerheads, with pierced vase-shaped splat also carved with acanthus leaves and flowerheads, the drop-in seat raised on cabriole legs carved at the knees with acanthus and beading and ending in paw feet at front, splayed legs at back.
Condition
Overall good condition. First chair with separation at join of cresting rail and splat now with infilling due to shrinkage; some old repaired breaks to splat; splat and backrest are stable; black right foot spliced; back left leg with old repaired split; side corner bracket to front left leg replaced; some very minor worm damage to seat rails. The other chair with small, old repaired break to bottom of splat; splat and back rest are sturdy and stable; back seat rail reinforced; back corner brackets to back legs replaced; side corner bracket to front right leg possibly replaced; some minor old worm damage to rails.
Chairs are sturdy; nicely carved.
