Overall good condition; decoration refreshed; re-caned; chairs are sturdy with minor nicks and wear to the extremities.

Catalogue Note

The present chairs are nearly identical to a set of caned armchairs with identical supports and profile made by the Gillows firm for Lord Archibald Montgomorie (1773-1814) for the drawing room at Coilsfield House, Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland circa 1806-1807.  For a full discussion on the Montgomerie commission, see S.
