Overall very good condition. The sconces present strongly in person with a great nuance throughout the glass. The technique used to execute the glass panels is very rare and has a chipped effect when viewed in person. The glass with a rough surface which is also inherent in this technique. The glass with minor imperfection including air bubble inclusions which are inherent in the making. There a few light surface scratches to the exterior of the glass and the edges adjacent to the fasteners. One panel with a minor prior restoration to a corner measuring ½ inch in length which presents slightly yellower in color. Another panel with a minor edge chip, measuring less than ¼ inch. There is a single original two-part socket behind each of the sconces which are fitted for a bulb which has been discontinued. The sockets were removed for the exhibition and are being sold with the lot. The metal frames with a wonderful patina presents with very minor surface scratches, which are not visible once the panels have been inserted.
A wonderful pairing of highly nuanced and textured glass with a beautifully patinated metal frame.

IN CONTEXT
The choice of these wall sconces, as well as the other fixtures in the collection, reflect my long-time interest in lighting and the history of lighting fixtures. Techniques and design in lighting revolutionized the French design avant-garde. The combination of natural and artificial light create a plastic dimension that became an essential component of architecture. These sconces utilize an innovative technique called "le bouchardage du verre" and are related to later designs by Max Ingrand.
