  • 25 1/8 x 55 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches

Provenance

L'Arc en Seine, Paris

Condition

Good overall condition. The vellum surfaces on the top of the console with some surface scratches, light surface staining, minor discoloration and surface dirt consistent with age and use. The top has been sensitively restored to likely re-adher the original vellum. The vellum seams with dirt in the recessed areas, some associated traces of glue. Some evidence of wear and a few minor losses to the edges at the corners, consistent with age and gentle use. The cerused wooden surfaces with some surface scratches and minor edge abrasions, consistent with age and gentle use. The wood cerused finish has likely been later sensitively heightened. The patinated metal with some shallow scratches and minor areas of oxidation, consistent with age and normal use. The metal hardware at the the exterior of each of the cross-sections of the base is lacking an original bolt, which has not rendered the piece unstable. A wonderful sculptural table that epitomizes the artist's expertise.

IN CONTEXT
This remarkable piece, with its imaginative use of materials and crossed legs, is indicative of its era. It reminds me so clearly of a similar console that was in the Warhol townhouse on New York’s Upper East Side.
