Condition

Overall in good original condition. Each of the sconces with gentle rubbing to the silvering consistent with use and gentle handling. The two birds beaks are presently bent and one of the birdÂ’s upper beak has been broken just at the bridge and has been temporarily repaired for the purposes of the exhibition and will need to be stabilized by a professional restorer. All of the original elements of the beak have been retained. The legs on each of the sconces are slightly bent (one slightly more than the other) and would benefit from professional restoration. The alabaster shades illustrated in the catalogue photograph are not those being offered with the lot. The shades included in offering are slightly shorter and with a pleasing creamy gray appearance with some minor edge chips and scratches consistent with use and natural aging process of the material. The alabaster shades with a wonderful subtle gray veining that adds very nice visual depth. Each of the sconces are finely executed showing strong detailing to the sculptural elements throughout. Please contact the department for photographs showing the sconces in the exhibition.
