Catalogue Note
Aksobya is one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas, and represents reflective knowledge, the knowledge of what is real, and what is but an illusion. The brightness of his vajra dispels the darkness of ignorance while its diamond sharpness cuts through confusion.
Images of Dhyani Buddhas differ from images of Shakyamuni crowned as a prince in that the Dhyani Buddhas are not ony crowned, but also have other jewelry such as earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
