Description

  • bamboo (Bambuseae)
delicately carved with a fan-shaped foot rising to a rim of corresponding shape, flanked on the straight sides with a pair of openwork angular scroll handles, the concave side incised in clerical script with an excerpt from Wang Xizhi's Lanting xu [Preface to Lanting Gathering], signed with three characters probably reading Banfu li (‘clerical script by Banfu’)

Condition

The overall condition is very good with the exception of some occasional nicks, especially to the reticulated handles.
