Condition

B. 1 with narrow to thread margins, trimmed just within the platemark elsewhere, in good condition. The verso adhered at upper edge to the backboard, framed. B. 2 trimmed just within the platemark with a blank fillet of paper all around the image and text, in good condition apart from a short vertical repaired tear at right of upper edge, soft folds at left corners (mainly visible verso), a few minute pale fox marks at sheet edges, other minor defects at sheet edges, framed.

Elsheimer was a highly influential artist who painted small-scale works on copper. He combined precision of technique with inventive explorations of landscapes, multiple light sources and exotic figures, to create different moods.
