Catalogue Note

Weyerman (1677-1747) was a Dutch painter and writer who courted controversy with his satirical writings in his magazine Hermes. He was given a sentence of life imprisonment for slander; at the end of the fourth volume of this set, a printed copy of his sentence of 22 July 1739 is bound in.
