It is possible that this model was part of a chess set. There are striking similarities in the modelling of the figure to the larger 'Rearing Horse with Moor' model by Kändler, a pair of which were sold as part of the Brooke Astor estate at Sotheby's New York on 24 September 2012, lot 458
