Condition

The sheet appears to be sound. Possibly a little discolouration in the sky but the colours remain strong elswehere and the work in good overall condition. Held under glass in a gilt wood frame; unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

Walter Fryer Stocks was predominantly a landscape painter of charming quintessentially English views such as the present work. He painted in Staffordshire, the North-East of Scotland, Devon and Lancashire as well as in the Home Counties, exhibiting at the Royal Academy and elsewhere from 1862.
