The rectangular case of curved pocket fitting form, engraved with a linear motif, opening to reveal a Danish inscription which translates as 'To Niels Bohr on his 50th birthday, October 7th, 1935’, measuring approximately 105 by 80 by 10mm, accompanied by personal note from Niels Bjerrum, gross weight approximately 152 grams.

Provenance

Formally the property of Nobel Prize winning Physicist Niels Bohr, widely regarded as one of the foremost physicists of the 20th century, and best known for a crucial early role in the development of the quantum concept. This work brought him into close contact with Albert Einstein with whom he famously held a number of significant and enlightening discussions. Bjerrum himself was professor and later president of the Danish Agricultural College, a lifetime friend of Bohr’s and one of the first Chemists to apply Bohr’s own quantum theories.

Condition

Stamped 585 for 14 carat gold with partial maker's mark. Weight approximately 150 grams. Inscribed 'To Niels Bohr on his 50th birthday, October 7th, 1935'. Scratches to exterior and interior consistent with wear. Clasp secure when closed. Accompanied by Niel's Bjerrum's business card with a note written on the back, in his hand writing.
