- bronze and cloisonee enamel
of hexagonal section assembled from the drip pans of a candlestick, the larger drip pan forming the bowl, the exterior of each facet decorated with a pair of scrolling confronted archaistic kuilong, the interior walls decorated with stylized lotus surrounded by scrolling leaves, the floor set with a honeycomb diaper incorporating florets, the smaller drip pan now forming the foot, decorated on the exterior with stylized taotie surrounded by foliate scrolls, the interior with a scaled-down version of the decoration on the interior of the large drip pan, the rims encircled by a band of T-scrolls, the drip pans connected by a later stem of conforming outline, each corner set with a toothed and hooked flange
Provenance
Removed from China in the late 19th Century and thence by descent.
Condition
There is the expected pitting to the enamels and scattered areas of infill. There is wear to the gilding overall.
