the rectangular panel well painted on both sides, one with a scene from 'The Romance of the Western Chamber' depicting Zhang Sheng being shown around the monastery by the abbot but distracted by the beautiful Cui Yingying who strolls in the garden with her attendant Hong Niang, all within a diaper border; the reverse a riverscape with a scholar crossing an arched bridge, the frame of hongmu wood with applied and carved decoration

A Fort Worth, Texas estate.

Condition

The plaque has not been inspected out of the frame. There is a small chip to one corner on the side with the scene from The Western Chamber, the landscape side has an iron spot and both sides have several scratches to the surface. The wood frame and stand has been reset and stabilized with glue more than once and there are some missing elements of the applied decoration.
