Description

  • Carved rock crystal
  • Height: 12 inches
the base a tripod censer raised on three paw-form feet issuing from monster masks and flanked by two upright handles, supporting a band of carved seated Budai which further supports two cylindrical tiers atop a raised foliate rim disc, the tiers with reticulated quatrefoil panels of seated Buddhist figures, the cover in the form of a hexagonal ribbed roof, the whole surmounted by a large double-gourd-form finial, wood stand (3)

Condition

There are chips and nicks to the extremities to the censer overall. The base tripod censer with an approx 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm) horizontal crack in the body and a polished chip to the rim. The disc with a crack from the edge to the center and a chip to the base. The band of Budai with polished chips and nicks. The larger cylinder with two chips to the base rim, and a chip to the top rim; the smaller cylinder with nicks around both rims. The cover missing three corners, and one corner with abrasion from impact. The gourd finial not attached to the cover.
