the compressed globular body rising from a stepped spreading foot to a wide everted rim, flanked by a pair of animal masks, painted with two pheasants and butterflies amongst flowering peony, magnolia and prunus, all between bands of bamboo, keyfret and swirls, the top of the rim decorated with shaped landscape panels reserved on a diaper band
Condition
The handles are possibly replaced and have some repairs. There is a restored rim chip with an area of overpainting to the rim approx 12cm by 1cm. There are some glaze chips and fritting to the upper and lower sections of the rim, with one larger glaze chip to the lower rim (1cm by 5mm). There is a 3.7cm long glaze crack (with a smaller 8mm branch) to the lower section of the side. There are some iron spots, burst bubbles and scratches to the glaze throughout.
