- lacquer
of fan-shaped form, the cover carved through layers of rich red lacquer with two scholar accompanied by an attendant, standing on a rocky ledge and looking over bamboo and scrolling clouds, all reserved on a yellow cellular diaper ground, the sides encircled by keyfret bands, the interior and base lacquered dark brown, Japanese wood box

Condition
There is a crack/split through each corner of the cover, with one area of lacquer loss to one corner of the interior cover (3mm by 2mm). There is some cracking to the lacquer to the interior and exterior base of the box and a small (1mm by 1mm) area of lacquer loss to the exterior base.
