of cylindrical section, the tubular handle finely carved in low relief through layers of rich cinnabar lacquer with camellia blooms and buds borne on leafy branches reserved on a diaper ground, the cover similarly decorated, the top of the cover and end of the handle decorated with a diaper medallion

Condition

The brush and the cover likely associated and the cover appears to have been over-painted or varnished. The brush with a 6mm chip to the end of the handle; a 7mm crack at the tip and 2mm crack at the rim. The cover with a 2mm flake to the top of the rim.
