Description

  • jade and wood stand
the vase of flattened globular form, rising from a spreading foot to a flared neck flanked by a pair of scroll handles, carved around the sides in high relief with three phoenixes below the sun and scrolling clouds, standing amongst large blooming peonies on leafy branches issuing from pierced rocks, the stone of a pale greyish-white tone, wood stand

Bulgari Collection, Rome (according to label).

Condition

Several minute nicks to the rim and several small chips to the extremities of the carving, including but not limited to: the tips of the peonies and to the uppermost leaf to the reverse of the vase (9mm), otherwise in very good general condition. The stone of a slightly greener tone than as seen in the catalogue image with opaque white and faint russet inclusions.
