the ovoid body rising from a short foot to a tapering neck, painted to the exterior with four fish swimming amongst aquatic plants above cresting waves, all between ruyi heads at the shoulder and a lappet band at the foot, the domed cover with matching decoration the base with a four-character mark reading Fugui jiaqi (Beautiful vessel for the rich and honourable), wood stand

Provenance

Acquired by the parents of the current owners in the UK in the early 20th century.

Condition

The jar has over-painting to the inside and outside of a 7cm., wide section of the rim, a 4cm., U-shaped rim crack, a 1cm., rim crack, shallow chipping to the base of the footring, and minor glaze firing impurities including blisters, burst bubbles and iron-spots.
