carved in the form of two mandarin ducks, the smaller bird turning backwards towards the larger duck swimming behind, their beaks grasping a leafy spray of peony, the wings incised with archaistic scrolls and neat feathers, the stone of a celadon tone with brown inclusions, wood stand
Provenance
Acquired by the parents of the current owners in the UK in the early 20th century.
Condition
The carving is in good condition with the exception of a possible later stopper, and a tiny chip to the tip of the larger ducks beak. It should be noted that the stone is of a slightly darker celadon tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
