the base modelled as an elephant in openwork, the body caparisoned with a cloisonné-enamel lotus saddle with reins inlaid with turquoise and glass paste stones, draped over with a repoussé copper cloth decorated with lotus and ruyi scrolls in champlevé enamels and suspending tassels, the elephant carrying a pierced gilt-bronze vase on its back, supporting a German clock with enamel dial, Lenzkirch 1 million bell-striking movement with platform escapement, set within a pierced gilt-bronze bagua (Eight Trigrams) and lotus framework on champlevé ruyi clouds, the removable gilt-bronze stepped rectangular roof pierced with lotus scrolls divided by curved rakes issuing from dragon heads above a lappet band apron and a knopped finial
Condition
This large and impressive 'elephant' clock is in good overall condition with the exception minor loss to the turquoise enamel on the pagoda section, loss of inlay to the vase, los of one inlay on the elephants head, light rubbing to the gilding, minor loss and cracking to the enamel of the front facing saddle blanket and possible loss/repair to the enamel on the rear facing saddle blanket. The clock movement is very dirty and not running and will require a full service and overhaul.
