Description

  • mother-of-pearl inlaid lacquer and paulownia wood box
the circular top resting on a recessed waist with quatrefoil rectangular panels and a shaped rounded apron with scalloped edges, all supported on four tapering cabriole legs on a low base, the top inlaid with figures before fenced pavilions in a landscape with pine, the legs and the sides decorated with birds and floral sprays reserved on diaper ground, the base with a Buddhist lion at play with a brocade ball above foliate scrolls issuing fruits, Japanese wood box

Condition

The stand is in good overall condition with the exception of some rubbing and over-painting around the base with subsequent loss of inlay, over-painting to a 15 x 1cm., section of the base extending from the rim to the medallion, minor loss to the inlay in particular at the apron, minor areas of re-touching to the black lacquer and loss to the red pigment at the base of the stand.
