Description

  • ceramic
of tapering cylindrical form raised on three cabriole legs glazed in deep blue, the sides pierced and carved with six cream-glazed lotus blooms with a touch of pink on the petal edges, reserved on a ground of turquoise-glazed serrated foliage, all below a blue-glazed band pierced with ten quatrefoil apertures framed by a turquoise-glazed raised filet and an everted lip, Japanese wood box

Condition

The censer has over-painting to a circa 20cm., section of the rim with associated restoration to a break in the body extending in a U-shape 40cm., down towards the base and up towards the rim and then circa 25cm around the body and up to the rim, minor glaze firing imperfections including burst glaze bubbles and light glaze scratches.
