A SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF A LUOHAN QING DYNASTY

carved seated with his right knee raised, the arms held to his waist supporting a figure, dressed in long robes incised and gilt with floral roundels, hemmed by chevron borders inlaid with semiprecious stones, the face with a benign expression, the reverse with a  signature reading Shangjun zuo (Made by Shangjun), the stone of a golden honey-orange tone, all supported on a rocky plinth of pearl-white tone

The figure is in good condition with the exception of minor nibbling along the extremities. About 0.3cm up the bottom of the figure shows colour inconsistencies with the rest of the figure. Wear to the pigments and gilding. Surface wear. The actual colour is slightly darker than the catalogue illustration.
