- coromandel lacquer
carved and polychrome painted to one side with a pair of reclining spotted deer and a crane amidst rockwork, over-hanging pine trees, prunus, bamboo and narcissus, with an inscription above, which may be translated as 'The deer sleep in the meadow, the cranes stand amongst old pine trees. Respectfully engraved by Qian Zhenbang from Hongdu on an auspicious day in the 24th year of the Kangxi period' (corresponding to 1685), followed by two seals reading Zhenbang and Qian Dong zhi yin, all enclosed by a narrow band of keyfret scrolls, stylised archaic kui dragons and florets, the reverse also carved and polychrome painted with an intricate scene of figures within pavilions, all framed by a border of antiques, precious objects and dragons amidst clouds

Condition
The screen is in good general condition. Minor crackle to the lacquer surface. Minor lacquer chips/losses to the extremities. Surface wear and scratches.
Viewing from left to right on the side with cranes and deer, the 4th panel has a vertical crack to the top. The 5th panel has an area of consolidated flakes and crackle near the top (approx. 15 x 6cm). The 7th panel has an area of loss above the rocks near the bottom (1.5x2.2cm).
